The same explanations you get from the “?” buttons around the site.

Share of three-point shots that went in.
Above usual
How much better (or worse) a player has been in recent games compared with their season average.
Assists
Passes that led straight to a teammate scoring.
Average miss
On average, how far our projections were from the real result. Lower is better.
Averages & splits
The same stats averaged over different stretches, so you can see if a player is playing above or below their usual level.
Blocks
Opponent shots the player blocked.
Box score
The full stat sheet for a game: every player's numbers plus team totals.
Chance to reach
Our estimated chance the player gets at least this number tonight.
Defense rating
Points allowed per 100 possessions. Lower means a better defense.
Did not play
The player was available or listed but didn't get on the court.
Expected winning margin
How many points we expect the stronger team to win by. "LAL by 4" means we expect the Lakers to win by about 4 points.
Field goal %
Share of shots that went in (not counting free throws).
Field goals
Shots made out of shots taken (all shots except free throws), e.g. 8-15.
Former
Played for this team this season but is no longer on the roster.

Personal fouls committed. Six and a player is out of the game.
Free throw %
Share of free throws that went in.
Free throws
Free throws made out of attempted, e.g. 4-5.
Game of the night
The game we think is closest — where neither team is a clear favourite.
Games
How many games the number is based on. Fewer games = less reliable.
Games played
Games the player actually got on the court.
Hit rate
How often the player actually reached this number in past games. 7/10 = did it in 7 of the last 10.
Home / Away
Record in the team's own arena vs on the road.
Last 10
Averages over the 10 most recent games.
Last 20

Leans
Whether our projections have tended to come in too high or too low on average.
Likely range
Where the number lands in most games. Results outside this range happen, just less often.
Margin
How many points the team won (+) or lost (−) by.
Minimum minutes
Only count games where the player played at least this many minutes — e.g. to skip early exits from injury or blowouts. Starters almost always play 20+, so small numbers usually change nothing.
Minutes
Minutes on the court. A full game is 48 minutes.
Net rating
Points scored minus points allowed for every 100 possessions. It evens out fast- and slow-paced teams. Higher is better.
No stats
We have no stats for this player in this game — usually because they weren't on the team that night. Not counted in our accuracy.
Offense rating
Points scored per 100 possessions. Higher means a better offense.
Offensive rebounds
Rebounds grabbed after a teammate missed — they give the team another chance to score.
On target
The result landed inside our typical swing around the projection — a good call.
Opponent
Only count games against this team.
Pace
How many possessions a game the team plays — higher means a faster, more up-and-down style.
Players to watch
The players we expect to score the most in this game.
Plus / minus
How many points the team won or lost by while this player was on the court. +5 means the team outscored the opponent by 5 with them playing.
Point difference
Points scored minus points allowed, per game. Positive means the team usually outscores opponents.
Points
Points scored in the game.
Points allowed
Average points the team gives up per game. Lower is better.
Points scored
Average points the team scores per game.
Projection
Our model's best guess for the number, based on recent form, minutes and matchup. It's an estimate, not a promise.
Projection vs result
What we projected before the game, next to what actually happened.
Pts + Reb + Ast
